Further to this article, John wanted to share his thanks and memories of Bronek’s time in the industry, and to wish him all the best in any future endeavors.
“I was honoured to be asked to offer my thoughts and reflections on one of our industry’s most influential figures during the past twenty years.
I first met Bronek in 2001 when Chubb launched an aggressive takeover attempt of Hiscox by buying 28% of their shares. To say the bid was not welcome would be a massive understatement. Between an irate Robert and aggressive Americans coming across the pond it was a real ding dong. In all of the mayhem there was always one calming influence: Bronek.
When the press first got hold of it I remember well all of the Chubb managers being herded into a room for the Spanish Inquisition. “When I find out which one of you leaked this you’re fired!!”
One other thing I recall is we were in the same room with the Hiscox guys and the Chubby’s and it wasn’t going well and we looked at each other and eyebrows were raised with a knowing smile.
On the ground we had great fun telling brokers they might as well give us their Hiscox business now as it was only a matter of time before we owned them! Naughty but such fun!
